Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva today announced changes to the government, with the departure of five cabinet members and the entry of four new ones, bringing the number of cabinet members from 28 to 22.

According to the government's press release, the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, presented the reshuffle proposal to the President of the Republic, who analyzed it and promptly accepted it.

With this reshuffle, the government will now be made up of the prime minister, deputy prime minister and 15 ministers and five secretaries of state.

Olavo Correia will take over as Minister of Finance, José Luís Sá Nogueira will lead the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, while José Filomeno Monteiro will lead the Ministry of Communities, combining it with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration.

Eurico Correia Monteiro has been appointed Minister for Investment Promotion and Business Development, also taking on the role of Minister for Modernization of the State and Public Administration, Jorge Figueiredo will be in charge of the Ministry of Health and Vítor Coutinho will become Minister for Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing.

Olavo Correia, who was Minister of Finance and Business Development, has been dismissed, Jorge Santos has left his post as Minister of Communities and Carlos Santos, who resigned as Minister of Tourism and Transport on Thursday, January 30.

In the same vein, Edna Oliveira was dismissed as Minister of Modernization of the State and Public Administration, Filomena Gonçalves as Minister of Health and Eunice Silva as Minister of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing.

In addition, Adalgiza Vaz, Secretary of State for Business Development, and Eurídice Monteiro, Secretary of State for Higher Education, have left the government.

The communiqué also clarifies that the Ministry of Finance and Business Development will be renamed the Ministry of Finance, and that the new Ministry of Investment Promotion and Business Development will have as its main duties the promotion and attraction of private, foreign national and diaspora investments.

The department will also be responsible for streamlining and monitoring investment processes from the decision-making phase through to implementation and the post-investment period. It will also be responsible for business development, support for entrepreneurship in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as professional qualifications geared towards the job market, entrepreneurship and self-employment.

The new head will also be responsible for supervising public institutions linked to investment and export promotion, as well as granting guarantees for investments and venture capital, namely ProGarante, the Sovereign Private Investment Fund and ProCapital.

In addition, this ministry will be responsible for overseeing the entities dedicated to professional qualifications, namely the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) and the Fund for the Promotion of Employment and Professional Training.

With the government reshuffle, the Deputy Prime Minister will be more available for the economic coordination of cross-cutting policies that promote macroeconomic stability, economic growth and job creation and the Ministry of Communities will now be under the responsibility of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration.

In addition, the post of Secretary of State for Business Development, previously attached to the Ministry of Finance and Business Development, and the post of Secretary of State for Higher Education, which was part of the structure of the Ministry of Education, have been abolished.
